Ariana first started wearing a lengthy ponytail with extensions in order to hide damage that had occurred to her natural hair. It has evolved to her signature style. In October 2018, she posted a picture of herself on Instagram with the caption, “u like …. my hair? gee thanks… jus bought it” Princess Nokia accused Ariana of stealing the concept and flow of this chorus from her 2016 track, “Mine” : It’s mine, I bought it, it’s mine, I bought it Ariana responded, in a since-deleted Instagram story , with a repost of a fan’s comment: white women talking about their weaves is how we’re gonna solve racism After some backlash from posting the fan’s comment, Ari apologized : i think her intention was to be like… yay a white person disassociating the negative stereotype that is paired with the word “weave”… however i’m so sorry if my response was out of pocket or if it came across the wrong way. thanks for opening the conversation and like… to everyone for talking to me about it. it’s never my intention to offend anybody.
