Breakfast at Tiffany’s is a 1961 romantic comedy starring Audrey Hepburn who plays a young New Yorker who becomes infatuated with a young man who moves into her apartment building. The film is named after the opening scene where the actress eats her breakfast at a Tiffany & Co. after a late night of partying. In 2010, Ariana tweeted that she loved the film . She even got a tattoo with the words “Mille Tendresse,” inspired by a famous line from the film which roughly translates to “a thousand tendernesses.” In a December 2018 interview with Billboard , she commented on the origin of the song, saying: It was a… challenging fall day in New York. Me and my friends went to Tiffany’s together, just because we needed some retail therapy. You know how when you’re waiting at Tiffany’s they give you lots of champagne? They got us very tipsy, so we bought seven engagement rings, and when I got back to the studio I gave everybody a friendship ring. That’s why we have these, and that’s where the song idea came from.
