Taylor Swift’s reluctance to let go has been a recurring theme in her music, dating back to her album Red. In Lover, the song Afterglow hasthe lyric “Just wanna lift you up and not let you go.” The Archer puts a twist on it by instead asking “Who could ever leave me, darling, but who could stay?” Even all the way back in Stay Stay Stay from Red, Swift was daydreaming about a lover who would stick around. In this unreleased track, Swift speaks directly to her lover and urging them to be the one to promise her “I won’t let you go.”
