Third refers to Third Ward, Houston, the district that Beyoncé is from, adding to the Houston motif throughout the album. Bey reps that Houston Third Ward hard: She was even credited as “Third Ward Trill” on Jay Z’s Magna Carta… Holy Grail and was referred to as “Miss Third Ward” in the intro to “Pretty Hurts.” In 2013, a neighborhood in the Third Ward was cited as the 15th most dangerous city in the United States.
