Travis Scott is paying homage to Houston rapper, Big Hawk who was murdered in 2006. Hawk was a member of the Screwed Up Click (S.U.C) , a Houston rap group, which also featured DJ Screw, who is the subject of the song “R.I.P. SCREW.” In an interview with Rolling Stone , Travis' longtime A&R/collaborator Sickamore mentioned that he felt like Travis wasn’t getting the credit he deserved as a rapper. Travis shared this sentiment, feeling as though people weren’t respecting him within the rap community. This chorus is almost a direct shot back at those who doubt Travis. It speaks to his mentality regarding how he’s coming to attack the rap game. He’s “playing for keeps” and warning everyone not to “play him for weak.”
