Throughout Eminem’s career, he has used extreme story telling and cuss words to shock (disturb) listeners. He was never afraid to be controversial with his music, such as with the “Columbine” line. Since it says with Doc , another hugely debated song comes to mind. And of course, his _Relapse_and_Refill Relapse album (which was produced mostly by Dr. Dre) had some horrifically shocking content. Shock rap or horrorcore is a form of rap designed to get a point across by using shocking language. It’s similar in that way to “shock rock”, genre of rock music intended force the audience to listen to what the musician is saying. Often, a person can sing along to a song without really listening to it or understanding the lyrics, but shock rock artists like Marilyn Manson, who has worked with Eminem, use foul or crass lyrics. One of the best examples of this is “This Is the New Shit” by Marilyn Manson. Manson uses shocking concepts to emphasize the repetitive nonmeaning of current music. Eminem uses rap the same way. He tells the truth straight up as he sees it, in the most shocking way possible, to force people to understand his meaning.
