Drake’s longtime collaborator 40 handles the production here, but Drake is also given a producer credit under his C. Papi moniker. The song’s beat interpolates a snippet of unreleased vocals from Drake’s girl Aaliyah, from a song called “Quit Hatin'.” The vocals run throughout, but can be heard most clearly in the song’s instrumental intro. (The sample can be heard at ). Drake explained the Aaliyah connection: We were working on the Aaliyah project [a never-released posthumous album from 2012] at the time, and we had this vocal sample that we were playing with, which we ended up having someone re-sing and in a different melody. We ended up with “Fuckin’ Problems.”
