What is the meaning behind “Passion is a passing thing”?

In these lines, Swift imploringly calls out to her significant other, worried that he has gone silent because he has left her. She qualifies her anxiety about this inquisitive silence by stating that passion is merely a temporary thing if directed toward lustfulness. She wants him for him, but she’s not sure if he wants her for just her physical appearance.
