Cardi refers to “Hennessy,” a French wining company and one of the oldest manufacturers of cognac . The brand has had a long history with African American culture, from advertisements in black neighborhoods, the company was also a leader in hiring black people in ranks of leadership. In popular culture, “Hennessy” is mentioned in hundreds of hip-hop and pop songs, to name a few, “KC Tea” (2010) by Tech N9ne , 2Pac’s “Hennessey” (2004), “Hennesey n Buddah” (2000) by Snoop Dogg and many more, from other rappers such as Notorious B.I.G. , Kanye West , and Rick Ross .
