What is the meaning behind “I make sure that north-side eat, yeah”? God’s Plan by Drake

“North-side” is a reference to Toronto, Canada where Drake was born. Drake constantly shouts out the city in his music, an example being the 2016 album Views , which contains a great deal of references to Toronto . He may also be referencing the north-side of Toronto where he grew up near the Weston Road and Jane Street area. On the other hand, Drake has also become the global ambassador for the Toronto Raptors , a basketball franchise, representing them at events, games and other festivities. Drake also recently opened a restaurant in Toronto called Pick6ix with his OVO partner Chubbs .
