The word “starboy” can refer to a very famous man, the leading member of a group or team, or a male object of someone’s affection . The chorus is a dark, sarcastic look at fame directed at the fans, consumers, and the haters of The Weeknd. He asks the world to “look what you’ve done” with making him one of the biggest musicians on the planet. Now that he’s reached the level of stardom he once desired , he’s unsure whether or not he truly wants it. Given the context of the “Starboy” video , in which he strangles his former self, Abel might also be talking to this former self when he says “Look what you’ve done.” Both his former self and the outside world have caused his current self to become a “starboy.”
