There was a lot of thought that Eminem had fallen off , after his Relapse and Recovery albums. Eminem’s got to keep a few well constructed punchlines in there to keep the haters silent. Often many young new artists (“unsigned rappers”) will spit disses at bigger artists in attempts to gain more attention. 50 Cent dealt with the same subject on his 1999 song “How to Rob” . He also needs the occasional punchline to maintain some humor, sometimes in a macabre manner (the shock value which has made him so popular), or sometimes lightheartedly to refrain from constantly focusing on dark subject matter. Em used a lot of really similar rhymes in the song “8 Mile” : But yet I’m still strong unsigned , havin a strong rough time Sit on the porch with all my friends and kick strong dumb rhymes / Go to work and serve MCs in the strong lunchline / But when it comes strong crunch time , where do my strong punchlines go
