J.Cole touched on his plans for retirement back in 2016, on the song on the song Cole raps: “Said all that I could say, now I play with/ thoughts of retirement” and on the matter, or literally on the lyric for his annotation—DJ Khaled stated: “I heard that line and I was like, you know, I understand that line because I felt like that at one time. But we ain’t never stopping. Cole ain’t never stopping. And if he does, he still ain’t stopping, because he is an icon now. He’s a young icon and he’s making timeless stuff.” Even though he has plans for retirement, he just still “fiends for more.” The last line on the verse “I got a strange type of hunger/the more I eat, the more it gets stronger/the more it gets stronger/I said the more it gets stronger” is a repetition implying how he’s been repeatedly releasing music instead of retiring.
