The saying “cry me a river” is often used to describe someone being overly dramatic and upset. This phrase may be connected to the 1953 song “Cry Me a River,” written by Arthur Hamilton and first performed by Julie London . The 1953 song had subsequently been covered by Ella Fitzgerald , Barbra Streisand , Ray Charles , Sammy Davis, Jr. , and Rick Astley , to name a few artists.
